What are your New Years Resolutions for 2010? If one of them is to get healthy, take a look at these 7 easy tips you can start implementing into your life now.healthy aging for seniors 2 Get Healthy In 2010

1. Eat a healthy breakfast every day.
A healthy breakfast is the cornerstone of a good diet. Studies have shown that people can lower their cholesterol by eating a healthy breakfast that is high in fiber. By starting your day out with a good energy source, you’re setting yourself up for a great day.

2. Drink water.
Water is fundamental to help our bodies’ function, and impacts everything from circulation, to digestion, the absorption of nutrients. Start with 8 ounces of clean water every morning, and continue throughout the day.

3. Eat your fruits and vegetables.
Everywhere you look, emphasis is placed on eating fresh fruits and vegetables. We know fruits and vegetables supply many nutrients that are important for your health. For example, dark colored berries contain antioxidants; orange color vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes have high levels of beta-carotene. And the health benefits continue throughout the rainbow of colors. Make sure you incorporate some of each into every meal you eat.

If you’re looking for a Lone Tree Chiropractic center to help you feel better and stay healthy, it’s important to keep several things in mind. Lone Tree Chiropractic Lone Tree Chiropractic

1. Find a chiropractor that treats the whole you. A chiropractor should be concerned about your overall wellness – not just fixing a problem. Chiropractic care bypasses the western ideology of using medicine to cover up symptoms, and instead focuses on getting to the cause of the problem and returning you to a healthy living style.

2. Go in with an open mind. Just because your arm hurts doesn’t mean your arm is the root of the problem. In many cases a pain is caused by a reaction to a more serious problem. Chiropractors are trained to look at things from a whole body standpoint.

3. Look for education along with treatment. The more you understand about your health, the more active role you are likely to take in keeping your health. While a chiropractor can often times get to the root of the problem, its necessary to understand how not to repeat and get in that situation again. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll get the same results. But if you learn to approach things from different angles, you’ll likely have completely different results. Which ultimately should make you happier and healthier.

Yes, you read the headline correctly.  Chiropractors don’t cure anything; not headaches, not asthma, not stomach disorders or even back pain.  Then what does a chiropractor do?

healthy living Chiropractors Don’t Cure Anything!Chiropractic is based on very basic scientific fact.  Your brain is responsible for every bodily function you ever perform from before you were born until the time you die.  Your brain sends those instructions through a vast telephone network (known as the nervous system) to every cell, tissue and organ in your body.  If those telephone lines are interfered with in any way, those instructions coming from the brain get distorted and the result is lost function.  (Think of Christopher Reeve to help with this concept, he damaged his telephone lines and as a result has very little function in his body.)

Your spine is designed to protect the telephone lines.  If the spine has been injured (even very slightly) it can become a major irritant to the nerve system, this is what chiropractors call a subluxation.  How serious is this problem?

“Vertebral subluxation changes the entire health of the body by causing structural dysfunction of the spine and causing nerve interference.  The weight of a dime on a spinal nerve will reduce nerve impulse transmission by as much as 60%.”WOW!—Chang H. Suh, Spinal Biomechanics Specialist, University of Colorado

“Nerve dysfunction is stressful to the visceral nerve and other body structures and the lowered tissue resistance modifies the immune response and lessens the overall capability of the immune system.”—the journal Science, 1981 WHO NEEDS THAT?

“The quality of healing is directly proportional to the functional capability of the nerve system to send and receive nerve messages.” – J Edwards, MD, PhD., BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT!

1. Good Chiropractors Go Beyond Just Giving Adjustments.
While it’s true that you can go to any chiropractor on the corner, an experienced chiropractor will go beyond aligning your spine.  They provide education on health issues and provide resources for other health providers.
2. Be Smarter
Studies have shown that chronic back pain shrinks the brain 11% per year, compared to the .5% of a normal brain.  The area of the brain affected is the “thinking” center of the brain, which is responsible for memory and information processing.
3. Live A Longer, More Productive Life
One of the fastest growing segments of the population today is centenarians.  Many have outlived their life expectancy by half a century- if they knew they were going to live this long, do you think they would have made better health choices along the way?  Chiropractic will help you live a life without limits!
4. Healthy And Drug-Free Kids
Kids have a spine too!  Keeping pressure off their nerves helps keep them healthy and avoids the use of drugs.  It helps with ear infections, hyperactivity, frequent falling, bed wetting, and other “common” childhood afflictions.
5. Doctors Of Chiropractic Can Save You Money In The Long Run
Studies show that regular chiropractic care helps keep you healthy, thereby decreasing medical costs.  Employers also benefit because employees who are under chiropractic care take less sick days and have a greater productivity rate.

6. Improve Athletic Ability
Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, chiropractic care helps performance – up to a 10% improvement!  World-class athletes like Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong credit chiropractic for keeping them at the top of their game.  Better mechanics and increased flexibility (golf swing) are just some of the advantages.  Make the most of your training by making chiropractic a part of your fitness regimen!
7. Be Like A Celebrity
Famous people know how important it is to keep their spine and nervous system healthy.  Brad Pitt, when going through rigorous training for ‘Troy’, credited chiropractic for keeping him in top shape.   James Earl Jones, Demi Moore, Usher, and the band Aerosmith (to name a few) all have chiropractors who travel with them everywhere!
8. Great Alternative To Drugs
The average elderly person takes an average of 13 medications to treat 4 conditions. You do the math! Every drug has side effects, and once you start “medicating” side effects, it is a losing battle. Chiropractic has no adverse side effects and does a whole lot more than just cover up the symptoms!
9. It’s Better Than Getting Cut Up
80% of back surgeries are unnecessary, and the results are less than desired.  Carpal Tunnel surgery is often not effective because the cause is usually in the neck, not the wrist!  Chiropractic and other non-invasive alternatives should always be tried first, and surgery as the last resort.
10. Be A Fine-Tuned Machine
Imagine if you only had one car for the rest of your life.  Would you change the oil on time or even early?  Would you have your wheels aligned and rotated more often?  Would you buy the cheapest oil, gas, tires, etc. or would you spend more for quality?  Would you wash and wax your car keeping it free from rust and sun damage?  YOU ONLY GET ONE BODY, ONE SPINE, AND ONE MIND.  Chiropractic care is like having the best “pit crew” for your body.  Ensure peak performance for your lifetime!
11. You Have Tried Everything Else
Unfortunately, some people seek chiropractic as a last resort.  Fortunately, your body has a unique ability to heal itself of everything from cuts to cancer when it functions properly.  Chiropractic care ensures optimum function!

For the past several years, medical doctors have been repeatedly warned about the dangers of over-prescribing antibiotics. They’ve been told, in medical journals and consumer health magazines, that antibiotics are not effective for colds, upper respiratory infections (URIs), bronchitis or other similar health problems.
That’s not all. They can weaken a person’s natural immune system and their overuse has already lead to the creation of “superbacteria” which is resistant to antibiotic therapy.
Yet, a new report revealed that 44% of children seen by physicians for treatment of common colds still leave doctors’ offices with unnecessary prescriptions for antibiotics!
In addition, 46% of pediatric patients with URIs and 75% of pediatric patients with bronchitis receive antibiotics for their conditions.
Dr. Ann-Christine Nyquist of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver and a multicenter team reported their findings in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

They concluded, “Antibiotic prescribing for children diagnosed as having colds, URIs, and bronchitis, conditions that typically do not benefit from antibiotics, represents a substantial proportion of total antibiotic prescriptions to children in the United States each year.”
Among these kids, it’s the youngest who are being pumped with the most drugs. The report noted that children up to four years accounted for 58% of the antibiotic prescriptions.
Instead of “fixing” your kids with pills that don’t work, invest in a health and wellness program instead. Chiropractic care for children can be started immediately after birth, and can help your child stay well for life.

1. The Blair chiropractic technique is a specific system of analyzing and adjusting the upper cervical vertebrae of the spinal column.
2. The atlas and axis are the only vertebrae in proximity to the brain stem. When they misalign to the extent that they put pressure on the brain stem and or spinal cord they interfere with the vital messages being sent to and from the brain to all parts of the body.
3. Any part of the body can be effected when there is pressure on the brain stem or spinal cord because almost all of the nerves have to pass through this area before reaching the part of the body they innervate.

5. Chiropractic care isn’t about twisting, popping or pulling the spine. It’s about getting to the root of the problem, and adjusting the spine based on personalization.
6. The Blair Technique utilizes neurological tests, heat sensitive instrumentation and other means for detecting when the vertebral subluxation is present or absent. An adjustment is made only when nerve pressure is present.
7. The Blair technique utilizes precise x-rays of the upper cervical area to determine which way the vertebrae has misaligned so that a precise and specific adjustment may be tailored and administered to that individual.

“Does my managed care program cover Chiropractic care?”

I hear this question often here in our chiropractic office. Here is an overview of how most managed care companies work and their relationship to chiropractic and other wellness issues.

There is a wellness movement in society. According to a Harvard Medical School study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, in 1997 there were 629 million visits made to non-medical practitioners as opposed to 386 million visits to medical practitioners. This number is up from 425 million visits to holistic healthcare providers in 1990. Wow, that’s what I call growth!

This 204 million visit increase to health care providers oat%20the%20starting%20gate Why managed care won’t keep you healthyutside the medical system, primarily chiropractors, has caused managed care companies and insurance companies to target holistic health care providers for inclusion in their managed care programs. When this happens, the HMO’s and managed care organizations set guidelines for that particular doctors’ practice.

Should doctors accept this role with a managed care insurance company, the doctor will no longer be working for you, the patient. That doctor will now be working for the insurance company.

For that doctor to stay in good standing with the insurance company who will be referring them lots of patients, that doctor will have to restrict your care. Prior to making decisions that support your individual needs, that doctor will need to get approval from somebody in an office who has never examined you, and knows nothing about your health goals.

As long as this is the protocol and hierarchy of the system, managed care will never be able to keep you healthy! Your health is your responsibility.

Think about it, if managed care assumed control over your wellness, it would look something like this…

If you live and work in Englewood Colorado, finding a chiropractor near your office and home makes good sense. Here are 7 things to look for when looking for a family chiropractor.

1. Chiropractic care isn’t just for kids. It’s for the entire family. Chiropractic care can help a child deal with the stress of childbirth, and can help a woman experiencing symptoms from menopause.Englewood Chiropractor Finding a Chiropractor in Englewood Colorado

2. Convenience. By being located in Englewood, Colorado, right here in the DTC area, we make chiropractic care a convenience. Drop by before or after work, or take a few minutes on your lunch hour. We’re close by.

3. Experience and education. We believe part of what will keep you coming back is the experience – and the education. We get you in and out quickly, and offer advice to help you live the best life possible.

4. Saving you money. The healthier you are, the less likely you’ll end up in the doctor’s office for costly medical problems. Without the visits and medicines that are frequently prescribed during those visits, you’ll be healthier and wealthier in no time.

5. Improve your athletic ability. Are you slowing down because of the pain? Start living pain free with regular adjustments, designed to focus on curing the ailment, not covering up the symptom.

6. Avoid surgeries. In many cases, surgery isn’t focused where the true problem is; after the surgery, people may still be experiencing the same pain. Carpal tunnel may affect people’s ability to move the wrist, yet it’s often caused by a problem in the neck. Surgery should be a last resort.

7. Make it a part of your routine instead of a last resort. Too often we see people in our office who have tried everything, and look to chiropractic care as the last resort. Chiropractic care is about wellness, and living life pain free. Start with chiropractic care for your entire family, and avoid some of the problems and symptoms that come over time.

Watts Chiropractic is an Englewood Chiropractor that specializes in helping Colorado residents here in the Denver Tech Center. We focus on helping your entire family with living a healthy, pain free life.

In chiropractic care, we use the word subluxation all the time. But what does it truly mean? Lets travel back in time 100 years or so to make a quick analogy.Subluxation1 Subluxation – A Basic Understanding

In the old west, the mortal punishment of choice was hanging.  Many people mistakenly think that hanging kills by strangling the victim, this is completely untrue.  Hanging kills the same way that subluxations kill, by causing interference to the mind body connection.

When a person is hung the force causes a fracture of the second cervical vertebra, called a hangman’s fracture (big surprise!), that damages the spinal cord.  When the spinal cord is damaged with this type of force it can cause a complete interruption of the flow of information from the brain to the body and the body to the brain.  This complete disruption is also known as DEATH.

Subluxation causes the same phenomenon to occur.  When the spine doesn’t function properly it loses its ability to protect the nerve system and becomes an irritant by pinching, rubbing, or stretching the spinal cords and nerves.  This causes the same loss of communication between the brain and the body as the Hangman’s fracture, but to a lesser degree so the damages may take months or even years to accumulate. Either way, the end result will be the same.

The moral of the story is:

People are hung for the sole purpose of breaking the mind body connection, subluxation just does it slower!
