I sat down with a woman the other day who was new to chiropractic. She asked a few questions, and I provided a few answers. Then she asked something I hear quite regularly.

“Once I start chiropractic with you, do I always have to come in? Is this something I have to do regularly?’

A lot of people have, in my opinion, a misunderstanding of what a doctor’s job really is. And I can’t blame them. Western medicine has trained all of us to wait for a problem, head into the doctor’s office to find a solution, come out with a pill and exist until the next problem arises.

Lets look at it from a different perspective. Lets take your car, for instance. When you buy a car, everything runs perfectly on it. So you drive it. You can take one of two approaches. You can drive it until you have a problem, then take it into the mechanic to find out what’s wrong. But that will cost you a lot of money in the end. If you don’t put oil in regularly, you risk destroying the engine. If you don’t put brakes on it, you risk an accident, which could be very deadly to you, your family, and those around you. But if you perform routine maintenance – regular oil changes, new brakes, new tires, etc – your car will last and be in great shape for years.

The same applies to our human bodies. Sure, we can run them as ragged as possible until we have a problem, then look for the quickest fix possible. But if you eat completely wrong, eating nothing but sweets, high processed foods, and meals from the 99 cents menu, you can’t expect to be at your optimal level well into the future. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you have to know you’ll eventually pay the price.

Which is why many of us make a change early on. We incorporate good foods into our diets. We start an exercise program. We look at which supplements will benefit us the most.

That’s where chiropractic comes into play.

Chiropractic has little to do with quick fixes of the neck or back pain you experience in an accident. Instead, chiropractic care is making sure your spine is aligned and the communication between your brain and other major organs is open and flowing freely. If you want to make sure your organs are running at optimal level and are 100 percent healthy, you have to make sure your spine is properly aligned and there are no interferences in the way your nervous system handles the flow.

And that takes work. Because every day you move, play, work and change. Even the littlest of things can sometimes throw your system off. And with a small adjustment, your body is back on the right track, operating at full capacity once more.

Do you need a regular chiropractic treatment schedule to maintain optimal health? Do you eat healthy regularly? Do you exercise on a routine basis?

It all depends on how well you want to live now and into the future.
