You’ve heard people talking about chiropractic care. You’ve probably seen the signs as you drive around your neighborhood. But is it really something you should try?

Chiropractic care is increasing in popularity because it works. Its no longer thought of as a magic solution; it is a mainstream treatment that can help you with a variety of aches and pains you face every day.

1. People with back problems – Fell that strain in your back when you bend to pick something up? That’s the most common reason people choose chiropractic care.  The chiropractor’s first area of concern and correction is the spinal column itself, so if you are suffering from back related issues, give chiropractic a try.

2. People with neural problems – Your spine is intricately tied to your nervous system.  The bones that form your spine serve as a trellis of sorts, providing support and structure to much of your central nervous system.  If the spinal column is not properly aligned, your nervous system will be affected as well.  So, if you are suffering from a neural complaint such as numbness, headaches, etc. you might want to consider scheduling a chiropractic examination. You digestive system is the root of good health. Each of your body cells needs specific nutrients to work properly; if they are starved or lacking, they won’t work properly. And you’ll quickly notice by a problem developing somewhere in your body.

As you eat and swallow, food is broken down and enters the bloodstream and cells. If digestion doesn’t work properly, absorption is incomplete. And if the food isn’t digested properly, it breaks down by a fermenting process, which can lead to toxins being released throughout your body, making you sick in the process.

Proper digestion is imperative to good health. Yet more people suffer from digestive ailments every year – around 60 to 70 million people each year. What is causing these issues? More and more, we can relate it to our Western lifestyle.

Our diet is loaded with fats, sugars and processed foods. We eat on the go, and spend more time in the drive thru then eating a meal. Its no wonder people face everything from acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, to Crohn’s disease.

When you think of chiropractic care, what do you think of? Recovering from a sports injury? Finding a cure for back pain? While that’s a starting point, chiropractic care offers so much more.

As a family chiropractor in Centennial Colorado, I’ve worked with all kinds of patients over the past few years. We treat people from 0 to 100, and everywhere in between. We’ve helped patients:

Recover from birth trauma. As a newborn, an infant goes through a traumatic experience during delivery. Health consequences and hidden injuries can take years to materialize. Adjustments shortly after birth can help an infant recover hidden nerve damage, and avoid potential problems down the road.

Excel at sports. Kids and sports go together. From soccer, to baseball to football, we’re pushing our kids to excel at earlier ages. With more access to sports, there are also increased risks of injury. Chiropractic care from early on can help reduce the possibility of injury, and help a child recover quicker when injury occurs.

Reduce symptoms of disease. From fybromyalgia to migraines, a good portion of today’s diseases are caused by stress. Stress is linked to nerve damage, which can be controlled by adjustments through chiropractic care.

Concentrate of good health instead of responding to problems. Western medicine has always been reactionary. Wait until you have a problem, then deal with it by throwing medicine at it. Unfortunately that has led to our current medical crisis. If you are ready to focus on wellness and how you can maintain good health now and into the future, chiropractic care is for you.

In a report put out last week by The President’s Cancer Panel, we’re finally coming to a realization as a nation that what you put into your body has the ultimate affect on how healthy your lifestyle will be.

In 2009, approximately 1.5 million American men, women, and children were diagnosed with cancer, and 562,000 died from the disease. According to the report, a growing body of evidence links what we come into contact with in our environment ultimately determines our risk for cancer.

The study goes on to suggest that in addition to preventative measures, such as doctor visits, self examinations and screenings, we should also be increasing the way we approach a healthy lifestyle. Buy organic foods whenever possible, check radon levels in your home, and microwave food in glass containers rather than plastic.

In other words, its time to step up to the plate, and take charge of the way we look at our health, and the way we currently live our lives.

Health and Wellness Instead of Chemicals and Cancer

Instead of being reactive – finding solutions after we’ve been diagnosed with a problem – its time to find the solution first.

As new studies and legislation come forward, use them to make changes in your life.

Avoid using plastics made with bishpenol-A, better known as BPA, found in many beverage and food containers.

Continue with self examinations and screenings, that can find problems early, and help you get the treatment you need before it turns into high risk.

Make chiropractic a part of your regular routine. Chiropractic works on wellness, and works to keep your spine and nerve system in top shape. Because your spine and nerve system are core to your overall health, even a small injury can have big impact on your health. Correcting nerve dysfunction can improve your health, and allow you to get back into life.

The world of medicine is changing. One out of three Americans are currently using some form of alternative medicine. One in ten are under a chiropractors care. Over 75 percent are currently seeking other alternatives over our traditional western medicine. And one third of all medical schools are now offering coursework in alternative medicine.

Everyone has a story about someone they know who had an adverse drug reaction, was given the wrong drug, or had a surgical mishap. One kid who went to see his allergy doctor a few weeks ago was given somebody else’s allergy shots by mistake. He had a horrible reaction. He’s lucky he didn’t become a statistic.iStock_000010731573XSmall

People everywhere are becoming aware of these horrible realities and choosing to go elsewhere. The medical industry must clean itself up because it has become obvious that the federal government is not going to step in. Unfortunately, with managed care, the quality of care continues to get worse every day.

What if your child was going into the hospital for a major procedure? You would be more concerned about them being in the hospital than you would be about their condition.

chiropractic care for families pass it onRemember the old game of “Pass it on”? If you don’t remember, here’s how it works: a group of children would sit in a circle, the first person would think of a short phrase or sentence and whisper it in the ear of the person next to them. The next person would whisper what they heard into the ear of the person next to them and they would follow around the entire circle in this manner. By the time the message has gotten all the way around the circle the message is usually very different from the original. For instance, the phrase, “Two cats jumped across the stream” may end up being, “Too Fat to jump and scream.”

Can you imagine if we used this type of communication in everyday life? Imagine how difficult it would be to get anything done correctly, never mind efficiently. Imagine if during an important brain surgery, the surgeon didn’t ask the nurse for the right tool, but rather whispered in the ear of the person next to him who whispered to the person next to her and so forth around the entire table in the hoped of getting the right tool. How would you like to be the patient on that table? (NO THANKS!)

This type of communication is preposterous. We would never stand for it in everyday life, nor should we. This example points out the need for and the importance of clear communication, even in simple matters.

“Does my managed care program cover Chiropractic care?”

I hear this question often here in our chiropractic office. Here is an overview of how most managed care companies work and their relationship to chiropractic and other wellness issues.

There is a wellness movement in society. According to a Harvard Medical School study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, in 1997 there were 629 million visits made to non-medical practitioners as opposed to 386 million visits to medical practitioners. This number is up from 425 million visits to holistic healthcare providers in 1990. Wow, that’s what I call growth!

This 204 million visit increase to health care providers outside the medical system, primarily chiropractors, has caused managed care companies and insurance companies to target holistic health care providers for inclusion in their managed care programs. When this happens, the HMO’s and managed care organizations set guidelines for that particular doctors’ practice.

Should doctors accept this role with a managed care insurance company, the doctor will no longer be working for you, the patient. That doctor will now be working for the insurance company.

For that doctor to stay in good standing with the insurance company who will be referring them lots of patients, that doctor will have to restrict your care. Prior to making decisions that support your individual needs, that doctor will need to get approval from somebody in an office who has never examined you, and knows nothing about your health goals.

As long as this is the protocol and hierarchy of the system, managed care will never be able to keep you healthy! Your health is your responsibility.

Think about it, if managed care assumed control over your wellness, it would look something like this…

If you live and work in Englewood Colorado, finding a chiropractor near your office and home makes good sense. Here are 7 things to look for when looking for a family chiropractor.

1. Chiropractic care isn’t just for kids. It’s for the entire family. Chiropractic care can help a child deal with the stress of childbirth, and can help a woman experiencing symptoms from menopause.Englewood Chiropractor

2. Convenience. By being located in Englewood, Colorado, right here in the DTC area, we make chiropractic care a convenience. Drop by before or after work, or take a few minutes on your lunch hour. We’re close by.

3. Experience and education. We believe part of what will keep you coming back is the experience – and the education. We get you in and out quickly, and offer advice to help you live the best life possible.

4. Saving you money. The healthier you are, the less likely you’ll end up in the doctor’s office for costly medical problems. Without the visits and medicines that are frequently prescribed during those visits, you’ll be healthier and wealthier in no time.

5. Improve your athletic ability. Are you slowing down because of the pain? Start living pain free with regular adjustments, designed to focus on curing the ailment, not covering up the symptom.

6. Avoid surgeries. In many cases, surgery isn’t focused where the true problem is; after the surgery, people may still be experiencing the same pain. Carpal tunnel may affect people’s ability to move the wrist, yet it’s often caused by a problem in the neck. Surgery should be a last resort.

7. Make it a part of your routine instead of a last resort. Too often we see people in our office who have tried everything, and look to chiropractic care as the last resort. Chiropractic care is about wellness, and living life pain free. Start with chiropractic care for your entire family, and avoid some of the problems and symptoms that come over time.

Watts Chiropractic is an Englewood Chiropractor that specializes in helping Colorado residents here in the Denver Tech Center. We focus on helping your entire family with living a healthy, pain free life.

The statistics are staggering. Every year more than 5000 teenagers commit suicide while another 500,000 attempt to do so. Thousands of kids are killed and injured each year in automobile accidents and horrible acts of violence that are linked to drugs. Millions of kids are turning to drugs and alcohol to try to find their place in the world. What can we as parents do to make sure that our children grow up with the self worth and the values that empower them to “just say no” and use good judgement when they are out on their own?

One of my colleagues informed me of a man whom he heard tell an unfortunate story with a critical message on this very issue.raising a drug free family with wellness from chiropractic care

This was a professional man who spent his entire adult life working hard to achieve financial success for himself and his family. He was very committed to accomplishing extraordinary things in his professional life, and he did. He owned five major companies and was worth millions of dollars. He recently found out that this wasn’t everything.

One night, after flying his personal airplane to a business meeting, he received a startling call in the middle of the night from his wife. He jumped as his wife proceeded to tell him that his daughter in law was killed in a house fire and his two grandchildren were critically injured. Stunned by the news, he flew out the next morning, after his meeting, and arrived home in time to hear the doctor inform the family that both of the children had died.

Crushed by this horrible news, he couldn’t imagine things getting worse, but they did. Within just a few days, his son was arrested and charged with the crime. He is currently serving a life sentence.

This man’s message is very powerful and very sad. Imagine his pain. Imagine the questions he must have. I would wonder to myself, “did I do all I can to raise my family with the right values? Did I do all I can to instill a value system that supported a loving home in which every person knew they were important, a value system based on love and understanding, and a value system free from drugs?”
