When you think of chiropractic care, what do you think of? Recovering from a sports injury? Finding a cure for back pain? While that’s a starting point, chiropractic care offers so much more.

As a family chiropractor in Centennial Colorado, I’ve worked with all kinds of patients over the past few years. We treat people from 0 to 100, and everywhere in between. We’ve helped patients:

Recover from birth trauma. As a newborn, an infant goes through a traumatic experience during delivery. Health consequences and hidden injuries can take years to materialize. Adjustments shortly after birth can help an infant recover hidden nerve damage, and avoid potential problems down the road.

Excel at sports. Kids and sports go together. From soccer, to baseball to football, we’re pushing our kids to excel at earlier ages. With more access to sports, there are also increased risks of injury. Chiropractic care from early on can help reduce the possibility of injury, and help a child recover quicker when injury occurs.

Reduce symptoms of disease. From fybromyalgia to migraines, a good portion of today’s diseases are caused by stress. Stress is linked to nerve damage, which can be controlled by adjustments through chiropractic care.

Concentrate of good health instead of responding to problems. Western medicine has always been reactionary. Wait until you have a problem, then deal with it by throwing medicine at it. Unfortunately that has led to our current medical crisis. If you are ready to focus on wellness and how you can maintain good health now and into the future, chiropractic care is for you.

In a report put out last week by The President’s Cancer Panel, we’re finally coming to a realization as a nation that what you put into your body has the ultimate affect on how healthy your lifestyle will be.

In 2009, approximately 1.5 million American men, women, and children were diagnosed with cancer, and 562,000 died from the disease. According to the report, a growing body of evidence links what we come into contact with in our environment ultimately determines our risk for cancer.

The study goes on to suggest that in addition to preventative measures, such as doctor visits, self examinations and screenings, we should also be increasing the way we approach a healthy lifestyle. Buy organic foods whenever possible, check radon levels in your home, and microwave food in glass containers rather than plastic.

In other words, its time to step up to the plate, and take charge of the way we look at our health, and the way we currently live our lives.

Instead of being reactive – finding solutions after we’ve been diagnosed with a problem – its time to find the solution first.

As new studies and legislation come forward, use them to make changes in your life.

Avoid using plastics made with bishpenol-A, better known as BPA, found in many beverage and food containers.

Continue with self examinations and screenings, that can find problems early, and help you get the treatment you need before it turns into high risk.

Make chiropractic a part of your regular routine. Chiropractic works on wellness, and works to keep your spine and nerve system in top shape. Because your spine and nerve system are core to your overall health, even a small injury can have big impact on your health. Correcting nerve dysfunction can improve your health, and allow you to get back into life.

The world of medicine is changing. One out of three Americans are currently using some form of alternative medicine. One in ten are under a chiropractors care. Over 75 percent are currently seeking other alternatives over our traditional western medicine. And one third of all medical schools are now offering coursework in alternative medicine.

Everyone has a story about someone they know who had an adverse drug reaction, was given the wrong drug, or had a surgical mishap. One kid who went to see his allergy doctor a few weeks ago was given somebody else’s allergy shots by mistake. He had a horrible reaction. He’s lucky he didn’t become a statistic.

People everywhere are becoming aware of these horrible realities and choosing to go elsewhere. The medical industry must clean itself up because it has become obvious that the federal government is not going to step in. Unfortunately, with managed care, the quality of care continues to get worse every day.

What if your child was going into the hospital for a major procedure? You would be more concerned about them being in the hospital than you would be about their condition.

One man in his mid thirties was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. After thorough research he has chosen alternative care because he does not trust the medical and hospital systems.

What’s interesting is that he has chosen alternative care even though his health insurance won’t cover it. Like the millions of other people who make this decision every day, he would rather pay for alternative care completely out of his pocket than go into the hospital and receive the medical care that was recommended, even though it would be completely covered by insurance.

One chiropractic patient stated that one of her family members was being treated with chemotherapy and was regretting her decision. She wishes she had done something else and not started the chemotherapy.

These are very powerful statements!

Chiropractic care is much safer than medical care. This can be seen very clearly in the much lower cost of malpractice insurance for alternative practitioners as compared to medical practitioners. For example, chiropractors, who are the leaders of the holistic health care industry, pay only a fraction of what medical physicians pay for the same amount of coverage.

As a consumer, you have the choice as to what type of health care you are going to provide for yourself and your family. When you make your decision, consider these facts.

Also consider that within the medical system, there is no health care, only crisis care. In the book Medical Terminology, A Systems Approach by Glys and Wedding, the word health doesn’t even appear.

Chiropractic is health care. Chiropractic changes your mindset from sickness-based care to wellness. Imagine what your family’s life would be like 20 years from now if you made the conscious decision to be as healthy as humanly possible. You would begin to experience a new life with healthy normals. You would experience your innate potential. This is the goal of Chiropractic Care.

Millions of families have already made this switch with extraordinary results. They have practically eliminated medical expenses and are healthier than at any other time in their lives.

One patient comes to mind who suffered from headaches all the time and had chronic neck and back pain. After a month of chiropractic care she went on a ten mile backpacking trip with her husband and did great. Her relationship with her husband, her self worth, and her attitude have all improved as her health has improved. She loves her new life and is committed to Chiropractic Care with her family.

Dorlands Dictionary defines health “as a state of optimum physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.”

When you make this shift with Chiropractic, you will begin to experience health. Give Chiropractic a chance to make this difference in your life like it has for millions of others.

Remember the old game of “Pass it on”? If you don’t remember, here’s how it works: a group of children would sit in a circle, the first person would think of a short phrase or sentence and whisper it in the ear of the person next to them. The next person would whisper what they heard into the ear of the person next to them and they would follow around the entire circle in this manner. By the time the message has gotten all the way around the circle the message is usually very different from the original. For instance, the phrase, “Two cats jumped across the stream” may end up being, “Too Fat to jump and scream.”

Can you imagine if we used this type of communication in everyday life? Imagine how difficult it would be to get anything done correctly, never mind efficiently. Imagine if during an important brain surgery, the surgeon didn’t ask the nurse for the right tool, but rather whispered in the ear of the person next to him who whispered to the person next to her and so forth around the entire table in the hoped of getting the right tool. How would you like to be the patient on that table? (NO THANKS!)

This type of communication is preposterous. We would never stand for it in everyday life, nor should we. This example points out the need for and the importance of clear communication, even in simple matters.

Running the human body is far from a simple matter. Do you realize that you have 70 trillion cells that make up your body? Each has its own demands and needs. We have thousands of chemical reactions that take place every second of our lives within our bodies. We have millions of cells that die everyday and need to be replaced. We have 30-40 billion white blood cells seeking out bacteria and viruses every minute of every day. We have so much complicated stuff going on inside of our bodies that we don’t even know what we don’t know. (That is not a typing error, its true!)

Your nervous system allows all of this communication to happen accurately and in coordinated fashion creating the symphony we call “health”. Your spine protects those intricate telephone lines, also known as the nerve system, allowing the opportunity for clear communication. It is vital to take care of your spine throughout your entire life to have clear communication in the body. Do you want your body to function like a game of “Pass it on”, and hope that you get the right information when your heart needs more oxygen, or do you want to function free of interference with pin point accuracy and clarity? I think the answer is pretty simple.

Chiropractic is about clear communication within the body, allowing the body to function at its best……..PASS IT ON!

“Does my managed care program cover Chiropractic care?”

I hear this question often here in our chiropractic office. Here is an overview of how most managed care companies work and their relationship to chiropractic and other wellness issues.

There is a wellness movement in society. According to a Harvard Medical School study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, in 1997 there were 629 million visits made to non-medical practitioners as opposed to 386 million visits to medical practitioners. This number is up from 425 million visits to holistic healthcare providers in 1990. Wow, that’s what I call growth!

This 204 million visit increase to health care providers outside the medical system, primarily chiropractors, has caused managed care companies and insurance companies to target holistic health care providers for inclusion in their managed care programs. When this happens, the HMO’s and managed care organizations set guidelines for that particular doctors’ practice.

Should doctors accept this role with a managed care insurance company, the doctor will no longer be working for you, the patient. That doctor will now be working for the insurance company.

For that doctor to stay in good standing with the insurance company who will be referring them lots of patients, that doctor will have to restrict your care. Prior to making decisions that support your individual needs, that doctor will need to get approval from somebody in an office who has never examined you, and knows nothing about your health goals.

As long as this is the protocol and hierarchy of the system, managed care will never be able to keep you healthy! Your health is your responsibility.

Think about it, if managed care assumed control over your wellness, it would look something like this…

• Thirty-six year old female:
Premium $325 per month will buy you one 12 ounce glass of bottled water per week, one 18 minute treadmill work out two times per week, one multivitamin every three days, one serving of green vegetables twice a week, and one chiropractic adjustment every four weeks.

• Forty-four year old male:
Premium $295 per month will buy you two 9 ounce glasses of bottled water per week, one 16 minute treadmill work out two times per week, one multivitamin every other day, two servings of green vegetables a week, and one chiropractic adjustment every three weeks.

• Four year old child:
Premium $98 dollars per month, one 6 oz. glass of bottled water every four days, one multivitamin per week and one chiropractic adjustment every two weeks.

While these examples might be made up, how different would it be in real life if managed care controlled your wellness? On the other hand, if you only implemented the things in your life that managed care said they would pay for, wouldn’t your wellness plan fall way short of its mark? Sure it would.

Medical insurance was designed for disease management, not wellness care. You and your family deserve much more than that, don’t you think? Absolutely!

Our chiropractic office has created an opportunity for you and your family to participate in true health and wellness care. We have adopted special financial policies that make ongoing chiropractic wellness care affordable for you and your entire family.

Every person deserves to be as healthy as possible! This includes you and this absolutely includes your family. Reclaim responsibility for your family’s health and wellness. Join the millions of other families who have chosen to make chiropractic a part of their lifestyle.

If you live and work in Englewood Colorado, finding a chiropractor near your office and home makes good sense. Here are 7 things to look for when looking for a family chiropractor.

1. Chiropractic care isn’t just for kids. It’s for the entire family. Chiropractic care can help a child deal with the stress of childbirth, and can help a woman experiencing symptoms from menopause.

2. Convenience. By being located in Englewood, Colorado, right here in the DTC area, we make chiropractic care a convenience. Drop by before or after work, or take a few minutes on your lunch hour. We’re close by.

3. Experience and education. We believe part of what will keep you coming back is the experience – and the education. We get you in and out quickly, and offer advice to help you live the best life possible.

4. Saving you money. The healthier you are, the less likely you’ll end up in the doctor’s office for costly medical problems. Without the visits and medicines that are frequently prescribed during those visits, you’ll be healthier and wealthier in no time.

5. Improve your athletic ability. Are you slowing down because of the pain? Start living pain free with regular adjustments, designed to focus on curing the ailment, not covering up the symptom.

6. Avoid surgeries. In many cases, surgery isn’t focused where the true problem is; after the surgery, people may still be experiencing the same pain. Carpal tunnel may affect people’s ability to move the wrist, yet it’s often caused by a problem in the neck. Surgery should be a last resort.

7. Make it a part of your routine instead of a last resort. Too often we see people in our office who have tried everything, and look to chiropractic care as the last resort. Chiropractic care is about wellness, and living life pain free. Start with chiropractic care for your entire family, and avoid some of the problems and symptoms that come over time.

Watts Chiropractic is an Englewood Chiropractor that specializes in helping Colorado residents here in the Denver Tech Center.

The statistics are staggering. Every year more than 5000 teenagers commit suicide while another 500,000 attempt to do so. Thousands of kids are killed and injured each year in automobile accidents and horrible acts of violence that are linked to drugs. Millions of kids are turning to drugs and alcohol to try to find their place in the world. What can we as parents do to make sure that our children grow up with the self worth and the values that empower them to “just say no” and use good judgement when they are out on their own?

One of my colleagues informed me of a man whom he heard tell an unfortunate story with a critical message on this very issue.

This was a professional man who spent his entire adult life working hard to achieve financial success for himself and his family. He was very committed to accomplishing extraordinary things in his professional life, and he did. He owned five major companies and was worth millions of dollars. He recently found out that this wasn’t everything.

One night, after flying his personal airplane to a business meeting, he received a startling call in the middle of the night from his wife. He jumped as his wife proceeded to tell him that his daughter in law was killed in a house fire and his two grandchildren were critically injured. Stunned by the news, he flew out the next morning, after his meeting, and arrived home in time to hear the doctor inform the family that both of the children had died.

Crushed by this horrible news, he couldn’t imagine things getting worse, but they did. Within just a few days, his son was arrested and charged with the crime. He is currently serving a life sentence.

This man’s message is very powerful and very sad. Imagine his pain. Imagine the questions he must have. I would wonder to myself, “did I do all I can to raise my family with the right values? Did I do all I can to instill a value system that supported a loving home in which every person knew they were important, a value system based on love and understanding, and a value system free from drugs?”

Is this the kind of home you are creating? Don’t answer this question with the spontaneous “of course” like many people thoughtlessly do. Think very carefully about whether your day to day actions match your response.

Many times, while your intention is to raise a drug free family, you are creating a drug dependent one without even realizing it. You actually program drug dependency into your family’s behavior!

What do I mean by this? How could this be? Please follow along with me for a minute without judgment and open yourself up to this information as you read on…it could make a big difference in the outcome of your child’s life.

Think about what happens when your baby is born and he or she gets sick for the first time. If you have not educated yourself about your child’s natural immunity and how it develops, you might immediately run to your doctor in a panic to alleviate your child’s apparent suffering, at any price, and give your child a drug.

As they grow up to become toddlers they may get another cold or infection and so they won’t “suffer”, you give them a drug. They continue to grow up and each time they complain they don’t feel good, what do you do to make them feel better? You run to the drug store and get them an over the counter drug.

Finally, they are old enough to go to school and the teacher tells you that your child isn’t concentrating or sitting still. Rather then look for alternative ways to teach, like many good teachers do, the child is labeled hyperactive or attention deficit and given a drug, Ritalin. It is amazing that in some schools, 50% of the children are on Ritalin while in others less than 5% of the kids are on this drug that has severe side effects.

Drug companies market their products, drugs, to physicians and parents with little emphasis placed on these side effects. Ritalin, for example, includes side effects such as insomnia, appetite loss, stunted growth and suicide. Antibiotics cause digestive disturbances and create highly resistant bacteria that cause super infections, which strain your immune system and are untreatable. Aspirin causes abdominal bleeding while Tylenol and Ibuprofen increase the risk of kidney disease.

Even worse than the side effects of these drugs is the message it sends. From the time they are born, your children get the message that when they feel badly they should take drugs to help them feel better. As subtle as it may seem, this behavior is conditioned. They see it every time you say “I have a headache” and choose to take a pill. Is it any wonder that when a child doesn’t make the cheerleading squad or gets dumped by their boyfriend or girlfriend, they turn to drugs to relieve the pain?

You can stop the insanity that this quick fix, relief orientation causes. Millions of people already have. Last year Americans made over 100 million more visits to holistic doctors than they did to medical doctors because people everywhere are tired of taking pills and are concerned about their horrible side effects. Almost every person you talk to today has a horror story about a severe drug reaction.

People today want wellness. They know that the human body has an incredible inborn healing power that heals them from infections and diseases the same way it heals them from a cut. At the same time they have little faith in drugs, which are harmful chemicals with unpredictable side effects. They are demanding information on how to build their body’s immune system for long term health rather than performing constant crisis care.

Chiropractic has led the way for these people by providing incredible results, information, scientific validation and research material on how to restore the body to optimum health and keep it that way.

Thousands of families receive ongoing Chiropractic Wellness Care and have practically eliminated medical expenses because they are healthier now than ever before. These people have turned their medicine chests into bathroom cabinets because they no longer use drugs.

These are not just people with back pains. These are people who are suffering from every disease you can name from cancer to Crohn’s disease, from asthma to menstrual problems. While chiropractic doesn’t treat these conditions, it allows the body to return to normal function so that it has the best opportunity to heal itself. Many of these people are perfectly healthy and are just looking to get to the next level.

One patient, in particular, had such severe menstrual problems, she had to completely get away from people every month and check into a hotel. Within 90 days of getting chiropractic care her body chemistry balanced itself out and her hormonal rages were gone. Another woman with a severe intestinal disorder couldn’t leave the house because of her condition. She was scheduled for surgery because she was dying. As a last resort she tried chiropractic. Her body’s Innate healing ability took over and she cancelled the surgery. One month later she was in Europe with her children. Her entire family now receives ongoing Chiropractic Wellness Care.

People are seeking out chiropractic care for superior performance also. Olympic and professional athletes receive Chiropractic Wellness Care to help them get the most out of their training and enhance their performance.

Children who used to get sick all the time and be on constant medication are now getting Chiropractic Well-ness Care with their families and they are truly healthy and drug free. Think about the difference in the message your kids are receiving with these two different approaches.

The old system says, “I’m sorry you feel badly. Your body is weak and you need these drugs to be well.” Wellness, on the other hand says, “Your body is strong and has the ability to heal itself. Let’s remove the interference so you can get well on your own. You can trust your body.”

Children that grow up in wellness grow up believing in themselves and are independent from drugs. Families that receive Chiropractic Wellness Care are sharing healthy times and perpetuating healthy values. Kids run into Chiropractic offices and can’t wait to get on the table for their adjustments. They are much healthier for it.

Give yourself and your family every opportunity to live the healthiest life possible. A drug free life! Empower them to believe in their own inner strength, healing capacity, and their unlimited human potential.

If it works for millions of others, why wouldn’t it work for you? Are you alive? Are you breathing? It will work for you, once you make the commitment!

Are you looking for a family chiropractor here in Centennial Colorado? If you live and work here in the Centennial area, finding a chiropractor near your office and home makes good sense. Here are 5 things to think about when choosing a family chiropractor.

1. Chiropractic care helps everyone in the family. Chiropractic care can help a baby deal with the stress of childbirth, and can help a woman experiencing symptoms from menopause. It can help a young child become stronger in her sports routines, and can help a man overcome the pain of chronic migraine headaches.

2. Chiropractic care changes your views on a healthy lifestyle. Chiropractic care isn’t about covering up chronic issues that may have been a part of your life for years. Instead, it’s about helping you experience living painfree and drugfree. Nobody should have to live life in pain, or on several types of medication. Natural is better. Your chiropractor knows this, and will share ways to help you get back on track towards a healthy lifestyle.

3. Chiropractic care helps save you money. The healthier you are, the less likely you’ll end up in the doctor’s office for costly medical problems. Without the visits and medicines that are frequently prescribed during those visits, you’ll be healthier and wealthier in no time.

4. Chiropractic care can improve your athletic ability. Are you slowing down because of the pain? Do you have the desire to become more active, and get back into sports and activities you’ve been missing for awhile? Start living pain free with regular adjustments, designed to focus on curing the ailment, not covering up the symptom.

5. Chiropractic care is a part of a healthy routine instead of a last resort. Too often we see people in our office who have tried everything, and look to chiropractic care as the last resort. Chiropractic care is about wellness, and living life pain free. Start with chiropractic care for your entire family, and avoid some of the problems and symptoms that come over time.

Are you looking for a south Denver Family Chiropractic care office for you and your whole family? Chiropractic care isn’t just for adults; it’s one of the best ways to help children build a healthy lifestyle for the future. From childbirth, colic, growing pains, and sports injuries, children work and play just as hard as adults. So why not give them the gift of chiropractic care early, and help put them on track for a healthy lifestyle?

If you are looking for a chiropractic care center that focuses on the family, here are a few questions should you ask before you start receiving care.

1. Find a location perfect for everyone. Chiropractic care treatments are usually a few minutes here and there. The more convenient your chiropractors office is, the more you’re likely to use it. If you’re located here in south Denver, it’s important to find a chiropractor in south Denver. Finding a chiropractor close to home, close to work, close to school, and close to all of your activities will help make chiropractic care a part of your healthy living routine.

2. Chiropractic care is about wellness care. While traditional medicine focuses on “curing” sickness, we focus on wellness. Our goal is to help you and your family achieve maximum improvement and wellness, then supplement with periodic adjustments to maintain wellness. Wellness care means regular maintenance – not an adjustment when you’re out of balance again.

3. Look for a family friendly environment. Just like you, your kids want to go places they feel warm and welcome. Because chiropractic care is all about wellness, its important to connect with your doctor and feel comfortable visiting on a regular basis.

4. Find someone that is a part of the community. You live here, shop here, work here, and play here. So should your chiropractor. Are they involved in local groups? Are they active online, and make a commitment to get involved? Do they stay current on medical trends? A sign of a strong business is one that stays active.

5. Define your goals for wellness. Every member of the family will probably have a different goal. Your kids may want to compete in various sports. You may choose to maintain your health with simple physical activity. Every goal should be achievable and not only a part of your goals, but also a goal for your chiropractor. Different people have different requirements for a healthy lifestyle. Discuss your goals, and make sure your chiropractor can help you achieve your goals.
