3 Reasons Why Individually Run Chiropractic Offices Are Better Than Franchises 3 Reasons Why Individually Run Chiropractic Offices Are Better Than Franchises

You may have noticed a variety of chiropractic offices in your community.

Some, like myself, are solo owned and independently operated. Others are joining the new wave of chiropractic and opening up as a franchise.

From coupons, to advertisements, to door hangers and more, all of this information can leave you confused. What should you do? Who should you trust? Here are some things to think about before you make your decision.

#1 You get a complete treatment

Franchises are great for one reasons – their systems. Someone in the beginning perfects what works and discovers the best service to make money, and then sells that concept to others. As a part of a franchise, the business owner goes to training to learn how to maximize their profits – meaning they learn which services will give them the most bang for their buck. Then they put all of that energy into selling that to you.

With a solo chiropractor, you get full treatment from beginning to end. We realize every individual is different, and needs different treatments and different guidance. We don’t “pre-fit” you into one solution. We treat the whole you. Read more

What is Tinnitus?

how chiropractic can help tinnitus 300x199 How Chiropractic Can Help TinnitusTinnitus is any noise (a buzz, a whistle, a beep, a whine, etc.) an individual hears that is not caused by outside stimuli. (Side note: Hearing voices is not Tinnitus, but a much more serious issue.) Studies have suggested that up to 90 percent of the populous has experienced this phenomenon at some point in their lives.

Tinnitus is typically harmless, and tends to be brought on when the individual has been straining to hear something. While Tinnitus causes little to no physical harm, the annoyance can be severe. Depending on your sound tolerance, frequency of occurrences, and length of duration, you may find this seemingly harmless issue to be extremely disruptive to daily life.

What causes it?

Tinnitus tends to be brought on when the individual has been straining to hear something. Extended mental attention to minute details of sound lead the brain to overanalyze information sent from the ear. As a result, minor noises produced by movement and normal functioning of the inner ear are translated as loud noises.

Consider the lights over your head. If they are on, they are likely producing a minor humming. During normal daily life, you don’t notice this minor white noise, but in extreme quite their sound may seem to fill the room.

In a similar fashion, the workings of your ear produce a bit of “white noise” during normal activity. Like the lights, you can ignore this for the most part. However, focus on auditory sensations may lead to an increased awareness of these background sounds.

How can chiropractic help?

Chiropractic work, especially in the upper spinal areas could aid in coping with the annoyances of this issue. A properly aligned spine can help the nervous system and the soft tissues connecting the ear and brain, increasing efficiency and decreasing the occurrence of Tinnitus. When everything is connected properly and fully functional, the frequency of oddities like Tinnitus can be drastically reduced.

Remember when your parents nagged you to “stop slouching?” While they meant well, their advice for good posture was only the tip of the iceberg. If you want to help your children develop good posture, the key is to begin early in order to avoid problems in the future.

Helping Children Develop Good Posture 300x278 Tips for Helping Children Develop Good PostureToday’s children carry backpacks that far exceed what they should be carrying, and their posture is greatly affected. This can lead to back pain, shoulder pain and tension headaches for youngsters. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help improve your children’s posture, which in turn has a positive effect on their overall physical health.

Why is good posture important?

When your body is in proper alignment, your body can function with ease. You can breathe better and your muscles, organs and blood circulation can function easier. Good posture makes you feel good overall, and it makes you look taller too. Children can benefit from good posture when they are older because it leads to good health.

Older children can begin to develop posture problems because they carry backpacks that weigh nearly a third of their body weight. This is too much strain on their muscles, so they lean forward. This is the beginning of poor posture and can lead to issues later in life.

How to encourage your children to maintain good posture at all times:

  • Exercise. Fun activities like swimming and running in the park can help your children’s bone density increase.
  • Take stretch breaks. Sitting for long periods of time while playing video games doesn’t stretch muscles, so have your child get up every so often and stretch.
  • Lighten the load. Make sure they carry only minimal books and supplies to class every day.
  • Set an example. If you’re modeling poor posture, your children are likely to pick it up.
  • Make it fun! You can use stability balls and video game exercises for variety.

Ideally, you should have your child’s spine checked at least yearly to detect and correct postural and spinal problems in their very early stages. This can prevent habits and deformities from becoming permanent.
