Chronic pain is a pain that reoccurs frequently throughout your daily activities, and is active for weeks, months, or even years. It is often a pain that people somehow feel they have to live with; one that will never quite go away.
Not so. There is a path to relief.
Chronic pain is divided into two categories: intermittent pain that comes in waves, and persistent pain that lasts for more than 12 hours for a few months at a time. Whether the pain has built up over time within your muscles or vascular system, or its suddenly caused from an injury to your nervous system, chiropractic care is one of the most effective ways of alleviating the pain because it targets the root of the problem.
Depending on the nature of the pain, a few visits to your chiropractor should help a patient start finding relief. As a general rule, one to four weeks of treatment should begin finding relief for most conditions. Yet its important to talk with a chiropractor and find the best solution for you.
Keep in mind that there are many different kinds of chiropractors, all that subscribe to different types of techniques. In our office, we use the Blair chiropractic technique, which involves an initial exam followed by an x-ray to pinpoint the problem. Only after the problem has been found and a course of action discussed will we begin regular adjustments.
Adjustments usually begin at a frequent level during the week – 3 times a week in the beginning – then taper off within two to four weeks as the condition improves.
Chiropractic adjustments are an important part of staying fit, yet your lifestyle activities are equally important. Your adjustments will only help if you continue to make improvements throughout your daily life in all areas that impact your spine. Ergonomics, posture, diet, exercise, all will have a part in how well you heal, and overall how you feel in time.
Once you begin noticing improvement, the treatment frequency is tapered off.
However, keep in mind that chiropractic adjustments can be used as a regular part of your well-being regiment. If your goal is to maintain health instead of react to problems once they arise, chiropractic care can keep you in top shape now and in the future.
